About my earlier post on Cindy Sheehan's celebrity protester credibility

Cindy Sheehan
Mother, Anti-War Hero

Cindy Sheehan has re-energized the nation's anti-war movement with her unflagging desire to meet with President Bush to ask: "What is the noble cause for which my son died in Iraq?"

Cindy Sheehan is now available for speaking engagements exclusively through Speaking Matters LLC.

I agree, it seems like she is more concerned about TV appearances than her son. It is sad because I felt so much for her

Does she do bar mitzmahs? weddings? Typical liberal loony.

I'm not ready to indict her yet (after all, she's not a republican congressman from Texas), because I can imagine that things have been very weird for her lately. She started a very personal protest against the war and Chimpy McFlightsuit, and became a national celebrity overnight - a target for the amoral rightwing attack dogs and an icon for antiwar activists to rally around. It's not unexpected that that sort of fame would be disconcerting. If someone started offering her money and the chance to get her message out even more, I can't say that would be wrong.

I am not suggesting at all that she is exploiting her loss or her new-found celebrity. Hell, more power to her. My concern is that politics is perception, and that the perception, however far removed from reality, will obscure the message.
